From Rebecca Black's end-of-the-week abomination Friday to the planking of 2011 - the safer but messier option of "cone-ing" - this year's YouTube greatest hits chronicle the weird, the colourful and the occasional train-wreck that we can't help watching, as revealed by YouTube's 10 most-watched community videos of 2011 in Australia.

 1. Rebecca Black, Friday. "Kickin' in the front seat/Sittin' in the back seat/Gotta make my mind up/Which seat can I take? ..." Not to mention that Friday is the day after Thursday. Aspiring American teen star on the receiving end of worldwide ridicule with the No.1 most-viewed video in Australia and around the world with 12 million hits and rising. Follow-up hit so far not forthcoming.

2. Ultimate Dog Tease. The old talking-dog voiceover trick, in which an owner tells his german shepherd which tasty treats he's been missing out on with heart-wrenching results. Just the 74 million views. www.bit.ly/ultdogtease

3. The Adelaide Channel 10 incident where sports presenter Mark Aiston says of the Test cricket Ashes urn: "It's amazing how something so small can be so impressive" and newsreader Belinda Heggen delivers her famous off-the-cuff reply.

4. Jack Sparrow (feat Michael Bolton). Bolton adds his vocal stamp to joke hip-hop ode to Pirates of the Caribbean hero. Ouch.

5. Songify This - Winning. Imagine Charlie Sheen's TV interview drug revelations run through the Autotune and turned into a bragging rap satire.

6. Nyan Cat. At last count, 53,742,968 people had nothing better to do than watch a Space Invader Cat getting nowhere, set to world's most irritating background music.

7. The Creep (feat. Nicki Minaj and John Waters). The Twist, The Swim. Every year needs a new dance craze to capture the nerd market.

8. Nice Guys. Two losers take a "how to pick up girls class" and learn the harsh lesson about what happens to nice guys, set to excruciating hip-hop-pop song.

9. Cone-ing. This is never going to catch on in the height of a Queensland summer, is it? Melbourne prank video based around buying a soft-serve ice-cream from a drive-through and grabbing the ice-cream instead of the cone.

10. Super Bass, Sophia Grace Brownlee. Eight-year-old raps, sings and dances to Nicki Minaj song. And who is Nicki Minaj anyway? Should we know?
