Quentin Tarantino reveals his favourite films of 2011
And the ones he hated…
By Matt MaytumQuentin Tarantino has revealed his favourite (and least favourite) films of 2011.
The Quentin Tarantino Archives have got their hands on the director's rundown of the year, which yields some surprising results.
His #1 movie was Woody Allen's Midnight In Paris. It's an unexpected choice, but not underserving: it was smart, sweet and pretty damn funny, with some spot-on portrayals of '20s icons by the supporting cast.
Elsewhere, his list mixes the mainstream with the offbeat (The Artist andOur Idiot Brother tie in 10th place!), and there are some shocks (The Three Musketeers? Surely an ironic joke...) and he was also kind enough to supply lists of other films he enjoyed, his favourite screenplays, and his worst films of the year.
Check out the lists in full below:

Jan 14th 2012, 11:24yeah..i agree less and less with QT every day.the frustrated little prick...MikeyRix
Jan 14th 2012, 12:13"Captain America"? Really?! Sorry, but no.TheKingofCinema
Jan 14th 2012, 12:54Hahaha nice one QT. you may has directed some s**t films (accept from Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown & Kill Bill Vol 2). but boy I think you have got some very good taste in films like Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes, X-Men: First Class, Red State, Warrior, The Three Musketeers, Green Lantern, Captain America, Fast & Furious 5: Rio Heist. but I dont agree with you on the Straw Dogs remake & Paranormal Activity 3 been in your worst list thought. because imho I really liked them two as well.GarthMarenghi
Jan 14th 2012, 13:59Surely if two films tie for 10th that makes the next one on the list 12th? Anyway, perhaps some of these choices are merely to wind people up. Looks like he's succeeded. I agree wholeheartedly with putting the laughable Insidious on the worst films list; no idea why US geek bloggers were so in love with it. They're clearly easily pleased. And a 'Nice Try' award seems monumentally patronising, doesn't it?joker16
Jan 14th 2012, 14:21I love QT but he has sh!t taste in movies. The Three Musketeers??????? Green Lantern????? And Drive is a "nice try"??? F U C K you!!!!!murphy
Jan 14th 2012, 15:40QT has pretty s**t taste just like you daliknob, and i take it he didn't see Kill List then? The green lantern and that were bad enough, just noticed he has the sitter in the others considered list too, that was a total stinker of a film!McSerious
Jan 14th 2012, 16:00I'm just ignoring the rest of the list and being very pleased he's acknowledged WarriorHadouken76
Jan 14th 2012, 17:27Nice try? What does that even mean? Real Steel was a kids film about robots knocking ten bells out of each other and Drive Angry was about a guy who breaks out of hell and is pursued by satan and bad CGI .Ali1748
Jan 14th 2012, 17:55I agree with QT about Sucker Punch, I turned it off after 20 minutes.Heisenberg
Jan 14th 2012, 18:52@McSerious, i'm the same, don't care about the rest, at least he had the common sense to know that Warrior was something a bit special.StevePotter
Jan 14th 2012, 20:49@MikeyRix YES, really. Captain America was awesome.joker16
Jan 14th 2012, 21:12@StevePotter No, there was nothing "awesome" about it.TheKingofCinema
Jan 14th 2012, 23:44And oh yeah I also really liked Hanna & Real Steel as well. but imho the rest are s**t. :-)nkutzler
Jan 15th 2012, 4:22Hey, if weird thoughts ever stop going through Tarantino's head then we lose his genius. Drive was strangely judged, and I really want more people to recognize Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows. But that's general.MDahleLama
Jan 15th 2012, 5:18Whatever drugs he was on during this, I don't want anyAli1748
Jan 15th 2012, 6:22At the end of the day lists like these are subjective, I am not going to insult QT just because I disagree with some of his choices. As for saying Drive was a nice try you have to remember that Quentin will have seen many films similar to it from the 70's and will feel it doesn't hold a candle to them.StevePotter
Jan 15th 2012, 9:20@joker- Really? Not Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull? You didn't even like "The Star-Spangled Man" scene? If you didn't like that montage, I'm not entirely sure how you'd define awesome, my friend.FBJFryer
Jan 15th 2012, 12:51He picked Captain America and Green Lantern but not Thor, 127 Hours, The King's Speech and Animal Kingdom. Where was The Fighter tooSilverSurfer45
Jan 15th 2012, 15:25King's Speech, Animal Kingdom and The Fighter were released in the US late 2010. The dreadful Hangover Part II, Green Lantern and Green Hornet are there but no Melancholia, Thor or Another Earth?joker16
Jan 15th 2012, 15:29@Stevepotter It amazes me that anyone could be wowed by that movie. The action was poorly directed, the acting was dull and Chris Evan's has zero charisma. It was one of the more boring movies I saw last year... but to each his own. @FBJFryer All of those movies (with the exception of Thor) came out in 2010 in the United States. Animal Kingdom did make his top ten last year.MikeyRix
Jan 15th 2012, 15:30@StevePotter Hugo Weaving was very good. Everything else? Bang-on mediocre.StevePotter
Jan 15th 2012, 17:18@joker It amazes me that people couldn't! But, like you said, to each his own.JohnJDuffy
Jan 15th 2012, 17:27QT p**ses me offStevePotter
Jan 15th 2012, 19:23Is it just me, or does this seem like something you shouldn't do if you're a film maker? Like, making a "Best of" list, that's cool. And I suppose there's nothing wrong with saying you DISLIKED a movie. But making a "Worst of" list just seems highly unprofessional to me.Mattsimus
Jan 15th 2012, 23:56Well evidentally some of his taste is shocking but lets face it, we've all got our guilty pleasures! Having said that its good rise of the planet of the apes was on the list......although was dissapointed to see virtually everything apart from THOR!!!!BobbyTwoTimes
Jan 16th 2012, 10:07That's because 'Thor' was sh!t....Firedragon76
Jan 16th 2012, 11:33Pirates of Versailles: Apocalypse (aka The Three Musketeers) is on the 'Best' list but 'Potiche' is one of the worst?! Maybe if Catherine Deneuve had blown up Gerard Depardieu QT would have liked the movie...FBAGardhadipu
Jan 16th 2012, 15:48i must agree with QT, our idiot brother deserved in his 2011 top ten! the list it's so hillarious! =)) well done QT :D
