Chess lessons

From my own experience
Always have a plan and it should be adaptable based on changing situation

Never make a move that puts your king in danger or be open to attack

Priority - Keep king safe first, then think about tactics/strategy

From other masters

Analyse the position each time
What does the opponent want to do?

Double check your move
to see if there is a better move

  • Look for weaknesses in opponents position

which side left unprotected
which square is weak

remove the guard

don't always think what you think of first is the best move
double check if you have a better move, then you think you see

Tactics
pin
fork
discover check
