Tyler Durden's Fight Club Blog: How to Disable Ads in uTorrent

uTorrent is a great app, but it can be annoying to have ads on your desktop apps. Fortunately, these can be disabled in the Advanced settings.

To turn off ads and offers, open Options > Preferences > Advanced. Here you'll find a large list of flags for the app and a filter box. Search for and disable the following flags:

offers.left_rail_offer_enabled/left_rail_offer
gui.show_plus_upsell
offers.sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled/sponsored_torrent_offer_enabled
bt.enable_pulse
gui.show_notorrents_node
offers.content_offer_autoexec

These flags may be named slightly differently depending on which version of the app you're using. Be careful when editing things if you're not entirely sure what they do.

  I recommend Deluge, it doesn't have too many functions on install, but many with plugins.
  They said that's easy to write a plugin too: one time I found a plugin for automatic download torrents on XYZ private tracker, I changed it to work on the ABC private tracker, that's why I like plugins.

  Also there's a tutorial about how to edit the code on this page, and some examples to follow.
  I just had to edit the "handler_anidub.py" file because this tracker is similar to the I use. The hardest step is just the zero step.

I prefer the older uTorrent... nothing new to the torrent function of it but has none of the new adware... version 1.6 is what I'm using

But the top bar ad still doesnt go away. It says "Your download is taking too long. Install iLivid..."

  Austin’s probably fine, and I’m sure you actually have a choice of ISP; but Rochester, NY? TWC doesn’t offer anything faster than 50Mbit, and you pay out the ass for it. I’ve also read an article a while back that quoted a TWC exec saying that Rochester doesn’t need faster internet, though I conveniently cannot find it.
