Easy steps to Will us to wealth
- 6 DAYS AGO FEBRUARY 19, 2014
THE power of celebrity drives much of our culture today, but can it give us some insights into managing money?
We tend to pay more attention to focus on what actors, sports stars and other celebrities say, even though their experiences and lifestyle are likely to be much different than our own.
I’ve spent an unhealthy amount of time over the past decade searching for money quotes to inspire and entertain.
Anything that makes you think about improving your own finances — even for a minute — is worthwhile, so here are six of the best:
1. Will Smith: “Money and success don’t change people — they merely amplify what is already there.”
Wise words from everyone’s favourite Man in Black. No amount of money can improve your personality if you’re nasty, but it can make you seem nastier.
2. Agatha Christie: “Where large sums of money are concerned, it is advisable to trust nobody.”
Just like characters in her mystery novels discovered, there is always someone out there doing bad things. The more money you have, the bigger the target that’s painted on your back. Always seek second and third opinions.
3. George Burns: “Don’t stay in bed, unless you can make money in bed.”
Money won’t come to those who procrastinate. Burns also once said he couldn’t afford to die because he would “lose too much money”, a quirky way to say all the wealth in the word means little at the end.
4. Arnold Schwarzenegger: “I have plenty of money, unlike other Hollywood celebrities or athletes that have not invested well.”
Few people realise that while Arnie was turning himself into a human walnut andbecoming a movie star, he was also a shrewd businessman buying real estate, putting himself through college and seeking successful mentors.
5. Joan Rivers: “People say that money is not the key to happiness, but I always figured if you have enough money you can have a key made.”
Money unlocks a wealth of experiences, but you’ll always need more than dollars to be truly happy. Health, family, friends and a sense of self-worth (not net worth) are worth more.
6. Bob Marley: “Money can’t buy life.”
The reggae musician died at just 36. Enough said.
