How to become a Uber driver in 3 Steps – Sydney

Uber application process
Becoming a Uber driver is quick and easy.
Enter in some basic details about
  • Yourself (name, email and phone number)
  • Your car you intend to drive with (make and model, year of production and licence plate number)
  • Once you’ve reached the dashboard, click on the banking tab and enter your bank account details

Step 2 – Find and print required documents
  1. NSW drivers license (At least 12 months old)
  2. Passport or Birth certificate
  3. Comprehensive or Third Party Certificate of Insurance or Policy Schedule (insurance companies will generally send a policy schedule after you’ve purchased cover)
  4. RMS driving record

Step 3 – Attend an in-person information session
Your then required to attend a ‘welcome session’ at one of Uber’s partner support centres. A schedule of locations and times can be found here for Sydney.
During this a Uber employee will show you a video explaining how to be a proper driver (basic common sense knowledge). They’ll then match you with an ‘operations employee’ who’ll upload all your documents to your Uber dashboard (basically your Uber profile). After this, they’ll then get someone from Autoinspect to check that your car is safe for free.
Here is a list of things they’ll check:
  • Headlights
  • Taillights
  • Turn indicatiors
  • Stop lights
  • Foot brakes
  • Hand brake
  • Steering mechanisms
  • Windshield cracks
  • Rear window
  • Windshield wipers
  • Front seat adjustments
  • Doors
  • Muffler and exhaust
  • Tire tread
Once all this is done, the Uber employee will send you an email that allows you to download the ‘Uber Partner’ app, which you need to receive jobs. Uber does provide the option of giving you an iPhone 4 to use but it comes at a cost so make sure you bring your own smartphone. Once the app has downloaded, make sure you test it out in case there were any mistakes as Uber partner support struggles with individual technical support. Lastly, take a photo of yourself in the app and your ready to start driving immediately.
